Thoughts on Suns-Spurs
April 30, 2008
I literally JUST finished watching the Suns blow 5 opportunities down the stretch to knock themselves out of the NBA playoffs. I have to say, out of all 5 games in this series the Spurs only WON one… the Suns GAVE them the other 4… this one included. I am looking forward to the inevitable Hornets sweep of the Sterns next series… here are some other thoughts:
It is clear to me now why I am not an NBA fan… fouls. The whole NBA game revolves around the foul. The Spurs are masters at flopping to get fouls, acting surprised when they get called for fouls, using fouls to kill a drive, and playing for the foul shot… that is why they are so successful in the NBA.
San Antonio Sterns fans are the most annoying people on earth. They actually cheer when the Hack-a-Shaq comes into play… in the 1st quarter. Any person who has any kind of respect for what little respect is left of American basketball would be disgusted at this tactic.
Steve Nash really crapped the bed tonight. I am not sure what the exact stats are, but I am pretty sure they look something like 0-37 FG, 0-0 FT, 568 turnovers. Read more
Great Debates: Capital Christ
April 29, 2008
I am starting a new section on Rethynk where users can debate issues and opinions in a peaceful, non-personal, way. I think discussing theological things, as well as social and political, is good for everyone… it keeps us sharp and our opinions sound. I have learned a lot over the years through this medium. So, be sure to watch for the Great Debates every-so-often. Read more
Updating Things
April 28, 2008
If you have been by the site a lot lately, you have probably seen a change right before your very eyes… do no fret, you weren’t given bad mushrooms, I am updating it. I am still learning how CSS and PHP work together with Wordpress so I am experimenting with its capabilities. Let me know if you see any bugs… cheers!
From the Sports Guy
April 28, 2008
I don’t always like The Sports Guy, mainly because he is flaming Boston homer, but he hit this one on the head about the Spurs-Suns series and the ridiculous tactic known only as “Hack-a-Shaq.” Check it out: Read more
Rethynking: Youth Ministry
April 26, 2008
I am proud of my profession. By profession, I mean “that which I do to make money” and I take pride in it. I am professional youth pastor. A shaper of young souls. A spiritual guide for the spiritually newborn. A Theology 101 professor. A tried and true, pal and a confidant… (ok, so that last one was from Golden Girls). The thing is, my profession has never been considered just that, a profession. Its always been void of any credit, any professionalism, and any prestige. Think Jewish carpenter. Read more
Permanent Me
April 24, 2008
I just met someone who has a design I made for a church series TATTOOED on his arm. That may not sound like a big to you, but it is to me. I have only recently (last few years) begun to embrace and engage my creative side and I am still building up self-confidence in this area. To hear that a few people are getting a design that I dreamt up and created permanently inked on their body is a momentous thing for me. It gives me confidence, encouragement, and assurance. Now, if i could just someone to tattoo my face on their body…
Sticking it to the Man
April 22, 2008
I used to have serious issues with this years Idol front-runner, David Cook. I find him cocky, arrogant, and self-worthy… basically all the things I hate about myself. Anyways, he just jumped up in my book by sticking to the man big time! Info and art should be free to all, and profited on only by the artists.

Bachelor Dad: Day 10
April 21, 2008
I was expecting the BDE to end tomorrow when Mandy comes home, but then it hit me, I still have about 4-5 days left of this. Let me explain. Tuesday (day 1 after Mandy’s return) will be shot, she will most likely want the whole day for rest and reprogramming into her normal time zone. Then at least 4 days of post-mission trip depression. If you’ve never been far out of your comfort zone and seen things you weren’t fully prepared for, you don’t know what I mean. Its this sense that your normal life, is not enough and is somehow “not real” compared to what you just came from. It causes apathy and general non-compliance with the rest of your life which is beckoning you to return to your routine. It makes you have bad attitude towards others and causes you to despise the question, “How was your trip?”… not because you had a bad trip, but because there are no quick, brief phrases available that both adequately describe the trip and satisfy the need for a small-talk friendly response.
Mandy will most definately need time for this to run its course. Which means my responsibilities will only slightly diminish. I guess this is only now news to me because I am looking ahead to a very busy work week and was thinking I was just going to jump right in.
Today was the yard work part of Operation: Mom’s Arrival. I am still sick, maybe worse, and so are the boys so today’s activities were slow, arduous, and covered in mucus. I found myself doing something I never do… Red Bull. I had to take Sudafed to be operational, but I couldn’t afford the subsequent drag it induces, so I countered it with an energy drink. The ploy worked, but that stuff is awful.
By this time tomorrow, (hopefully) my wife will be home… and sanity and balance will be restored in my life.
