Bachelor Dad: Day 10

I was expecting the BDE to end tomorrow when Mandy comes home, but then it hit me, I still have about 4-5 days left of this. Let me explain. Tuesday (day 1 after Mandy’s return) will be shot, she will most likely want the whole day for rest and reprogramming into her normal time zone. Then at least 4 days of post-mission trip depression. If you’ve never been far out of your comfort zone and seen things you weren’t fully prepared for, you don’t know what I mean. Its this sense that your normal life, is not enough and is somehow “not real” compared to what you just came from. It causes apathy and general non-compliance with the rest of your life which is beckoning you to return to your routine. It makes you have bad attitude towards others and causes you to despise the question, “How was your trip?”… not because you had a bad trip, but because there are no quick, brief phrases available that both adequately describe the trip and satisfy the need for a small-talk friendly response.

Mandy will most definately need time for this to run its course. Which means my responsibilities will only slightly diminish. I guess this is only now news to me because I am looking ahead to a very busy work week and was thinking I was just going to jump right in.

Today was the yard work part of Operation: Mom’s Arrival. I am still sick, maybe worse, and so are the boys so today’s activities were slow, arduous, and covered in mucus. I found myself doing something I never do… Red Bull. I had to take Sudafed to be operational, but I couldn’t afford the subsequent drag it induces, so I countered it with an energy drink. The ploy worked, but that stuff is awful.

By this time tomorrow, (hopefully) my wife will be home… and sanity and balance will be restored in my life.
