Guilty beyond reasonable scan
September 24, 2008
In India, a woman was convicted of murder based on hard core “evidence” presented by the prosecution.
The evidence? A brain scan.
The authorities somehow managed to hook her up to an MRI and using newly developed software, they we able to chart her brains response to audibly communicated descriptions of the crime and “voila!” a guilty verdict!
I saw something like this once before…
Do think this is a good or bad idea? Can we really trust technology? Personally, it depends if the brain scan software runs on a Mac or not.
The New Cold War
June 18, 2008
This whole communism vs. democracy thing just won’t go away. The next phase of the cold war will be digital… HT to Gnucitizen for THIS article which highlights some of the snooping the Chinese have been doing lately.
Internet Explorer is dumb
May 26, 2008
The more I learn, develop, design, and program the web, the more I feed my deep resentment for Internet Explorer. For everything you make that looks great in a decent browser, you have to make spend 4 times the time making it IE compatible. For instance, if you have been to this site in the last few week via IE 6 or below, you have experienced a totally different site than how it was made to be (hmmm, there are some spiritual connections there). I apologize and am working on it now.
If you are wondering, why bother with IE if it is so dumb? Well, because 65% of web users still use it. I am proud to report that only 40% of Rethynk visitors use it though… do the world a favor, and tell it about Firefox!

Great Debates: Capital Christ
April 29, 2008
I am starting a new section on Rethynk where users can debate issues and opinions in a peaceful, non-personal, way. I think discussing theological things, as well as social and political, is good for everyone… it keeps us sharp and our opinions sound. I have learned a lot over the years through this medium. So, be sure to watch for the Great Debates every-so-often. Read more
Capitulation
April 16, 2008
The day is here, I have finally made the “switch”. I am Gilbert’s newest Mac User (note emphasized importance with caps). This is my first post with my new MacBook Pro and we currently on our honeymoon. In part, I feel lame for fulfilling the cliche of the post-modern, youth pastor, emerging church guy using a Mac and listening to U2, but I get over that feeling fast once I use spaces to check my email while working in CS3.
