Backstage Pass
November 12, 2008
The Smoking Gun has a site feature which highlights the best (aka the worst) of riders from famous music acts and celebrites called Backstage Pass The list is fairly comprehensive and you can see what your favorite artist DEMANDS be waiting for them backstage. Some of my favs include Clay Aiken (must be allergic to nuts), Creed, Amy Grant (no alcohol but a corkscrew? hmm) and Bjork.
Take a LOOK and come back and tell me which ones jump out at you.

Album Title Speech
August 28, 2008
Here’s a game to play with a friend or unsuspecting co-worker. The way it works is you pick someone and ONLY communicate with them using album titles from bands or artists. Its real fun when you talk with someone who knows its going on and can play back.
But I tried it today with my son, Jake, and he had no idea what was happening… he is in kindergarten. Here’s how our convo went this morning:
Jake: “What can we have for breakfast? I’m hungry.”
Me: “Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog Flavored Water” (Limp Bizkit)
Jake: “What? That’s gross.”
Me: “Well, Times They are a Changin’” (Bob Dylan)
Jake: “Gees, dad, can’t we just have some cereal?”
Me: “Definately, Maybe.” (Oasis)
Jake: “Ok, I’ll just get some Fruity Pebbles”
Me: “If You’re Feeling Sinister” (Belle and Sebastian)
Jake (after getting cereal down): “Can you pour my milk so I don’t spill?”
Me: “All it Takes is a Little Confidence” (Carrots)
Jake (now realizing I’m playing a game and didn’t invite him): “What are you doing?! Stop saying those things! Please!”
Me (seeing my 5 year-old’s frustrations, put my arm around him): “The Earth is Not a Cold, Dead Place.” (Explosions in the Sky)
Jake: “Nevermind!” (Nirvana)
‘Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy
August 14, 2008
Have you seen this book? It is a listing of famous music lyrics and their often misinterpreted counterparts. For example, Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze which says “…’scuse me, while I kiss the sky” has been known to cause confusion about the legendary guitar player’s sexual orientation and/or drug quality (see post title). One of my favorites is Ticket to Ride by the Beatles… I have often misheard the chorus as “…she’s got a chicken to ride” without ever really thinking about it.
HERE is an online database of often misheard lyrics. They even have a widget:

The Presets: Apocalypso
June 29, 2008
I am sucker for good electronic music… (insert joke here).
No, really, I like electronic, electronic and techno. Its a genre that is diverse, requires talent, and never really dies. Anyways, one of my favorite bands is The Presets. They blew me away with their last album and I just downloaded their most recent one, Apocalypso. Read more
C. J. Bergmen: Sons and Daughters
May 18, 2008
This isn’t as much a “review” as it is a way for me to process this album. I don’t expect anybody really reads or cares about my opinion on music, but it is a venue for me, a lover of music.
Like most things, I am ADD in my music rotation. Typically, I will listen to one album exclusively (or song in the case of Chamillionaires Ridin’ Dirty) for about 2 weeks and then be distracted by something else and drop it. I did that initially with CJ Bergmen’s, Sons and Daughters, when it was released last fall and loved it. But this week, I picked it back up and for some reason, it sounded 100 times better than the first. Read more
Paolo Nutini: Three Streets

I discovered this guy from watching the Isle of Wight Music Festival on MHD. The thing is, I’m not sure if I even liked his music necessarily initially… Read more
