Kool-Aid anyone?
October 13, 2008
If you live in Arizona, you are either a reluctant Cardinals fan who supports the team because they deserve your pity or you are a fan of some other NFL team because you’re not from here. There are very few hardcore Cards fans… yet.
Each pre-season, I say to myself, “they migh actually be decent this year” and then I talk myself out of it because, “hey, its the CARDINALS!” But after yesterdays OT win against the Cowboys, I actually took a sip of the Kool-Aid. The Arizona Cardinals looked like a team that, despite their owner’s best efforts to keep them losers, believe that they can win in the NFL… that is the first step to actually winning. The fact that they are in possibly the weakest division in football only helps this.
Here are some points I took from yesterdays win:
- That game should not have been that close. The head official took 14 points from the Cards on bad calls… one that he had a chance to review and I have posted visual evidence that the TD should not have been overturned.
- The tuck rule is stupid… I though we fixed this?
- The Cardinals, for once, had a chance to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and didn’t do it.
- Arizona is no longer a home game for the Dallas Cowboys.
- Tony Romo is just as overrated as I suspected all along. In reality he fumbled 4 times and threw a pick.
- Terrell being Terrell will hurt this team this season.
- My wife and I have anger issues that seem to manifest themselves during close football games and are directed at the team we are supporting. We need help.
Let the throat shoving begin

Destiny? Really? Just a month ago, the Red Sox fans I know were counting them out and looking forward to next season. But, I guess if ESPN calls it destiny, than it must be so! The thought of Manny beating the Sox in the World Series while THEY pay his salary is just to rich to ignore… my fingers are crossed.
UPDATE: Ha! ESPN must have read my post and now their cover story is about the Dodgers SS Rafael Furcal.

The dangers of blogging

THIS is just one of the many risks I run. If I only had a dollar for every time this almost happened to me…
Beanie Business
September 12, 2008
Two weeks ago, Heisman hopeful Chris “Beanie” Wells hurt his toe during Ohio State’s win over Youngstown State. He has been injured since with the common knowledge that he would be fine for Saturday’s game versus #1 ranked, USC. Then, out of the blue, Buckeye’s coach, Jim Tressel announced that Wells is doubtful for the weekend… then he said it would be a gametime decision.
In my opinion, Tressel is just trying to play games with USC’s prep. I would be willing to bet that Beanie comes sprinting out of the tunnel on Saturday after working out all week in a secret location, hidden from the press.
Am I crazy for thinking this?
TN vs UCLA Pics

As promised…

Chillin’ before the game

Our view… sick.

Tennessee fans know how to travel.

The famous Rose Bowl… had to take this pic.

Mayday, Dr. Holtz, and Reese.

The coin toss, this is where we lost the game.

Have you ever seen a huge man in tight, orange pants?
Going Back to Cali

I haven’t been blogging as much at Rethynk because I just got a new iPhone and I am still figuring out its wonders. The drought will continue a few more days because Mandy and I are getting on a plane in a few hours and heading to Pasadena. Once there, we are going to put on bright orange t-shirts and go to the Rose Bowl and scream for her team, the Tennessee Volunteers and probably sing Rocky Top a thousand times as they kick of the football season against UCLA.
We are both pretty excited. Mandy because she gets to see the beloved Vols play the first game of the season and me because I have an awesome woman as my wife who also happens to LOVE college football. Wednesday is her birthday and this is how I am celebrating her.
Handy Manny
August 1, 2008
I was in a coffee meeting yesterday when my phone lit up with texts and calls… I knew at that point Manny Ramirez had been dealt to my Dodger blue. Immediately, I was worried about we gave up to get him… Ethier? Kemp? Maybe it was Andruw Jones… nah, I could never be that lucky.
Now that I have had some time to digest the trade, here are my thoughts.
1. The Dodgers DO NOT need Manny’s bad attitude and half-ass play he has been demonstrating this year in Boston, like a spoiled teenager.
2. That being said, .299 BA/20 HR/68 RBI is pretty good for someone who has been half-assing it. Its no secret we need him in the lineup.
3. Does this mean Andruw Jones is going to be sent to AAA Vegas? That would be great.
4. The NL West was “up for grabs” before the trade, the Dodgers just got markedly better with the addition of Man-Ram and Blake… I like our post-season hopes.
5. We basically gave up nothing to get him. Andy LaRoche and some prospect I have never heard of AND Boston is paying his salary. Thanks Theo!
Overall, I like it. Manny will most likely not be a Dodger next season, but I have no problem with using his services to win the division and get to the post season. And I’m sure he is going to start playing full-assed to help his own free agent stock. An added bonus: I get to listen to the shallow Diamondbacks fans panic like the sky is falling.

I was going to blog about this today but Peter Gammons beat me to it and said all I wanted to. Read his words HERE. I would have cried if he had won the derby.
